Many genealogists like to build their own resource library. As a service to those who do, GenealogyTips provides these Genealogy Books Resource pages in conjunction with Amazon.com.

Books Tip:

On first glance, you may wonder why I include out-of-print books in this resource. My purpose is to not only make this area of GenealogyTips one where it is easy to order books through Amazon.com, but also to make it one that is truly a book resource. Because of that goal, there are several reasons why I include out-of-print as well as specific topical books on these pages; those reasons include:

  1. You may only want to consult some books related to your research topic, not buy them; this resource lets you know which titles are available so you can check with your library as to their availability locally or through interlibrary loan.

  2. Amazon.com isn't the only book-buying resource online. Even if they don't have a title -- (and if they don't, their customer service department will go to great lengths to try to find you a copy of that title!), there are other places online that you can check.

You can also check on some of the other bookstore sites, such as:

 3.   The information contained in that book may be available online.

For example, because of copyright restrictions, you probably won't find all of the text -- or at any rate, the exact text -- of a specific book online; however, if you want to check to see if there are any related resources online on the topic covered in a book, you can do an online search to find out.

To provide an example, I did an online search to see if I could find any online information about what's covered in the book -- Burying Grounds, Graveyards and Cemeteries, Laurens County, S.C,  Laurens Dist. Chap. S.C. Gen'L Society -- a book mentioned on the "B" page of this book resource section.

In the AltaVista searchbox*, I entered the line below:

"Laurens County"+graveyard*+south+carolina

At the time I did my search, I received 13 "hits" -- which included a RootsWeb.com South Carolina page and resources for that state on Genealogy.com.

As you learned in the online search tips mentioned in the book The Unofficial Guide to Online Genealogy, don't forget that you can add or delete words or phrases if you need to further "refine" your search.

Good luck with your research. It is my sincere hope that this resource helps make your job not only easier, but more informative and enjoyable, too!
